Section 504 Document
Section 504 refers to a section of a federal law created in 1973 called the Rehabilitation Act. It is a civil rights law, and the school district does not receive any additional funding for providing services under it. Colleges and universities accepting federal funding have to follow this law, too. Disabled students receive modifications that allow them to attend and access school. Disabled students who do not qualify for an IEP receive the Section 504 document. Modifications include a notetaker, testing accommodations, shortening or modifying assignments, transition planning, instructional modifications, and more. I will include some outside resources not associated with our organization.
